Noles update: Coach Paul Maechtle's squad went 8-2 last year during the regular season and won two playoff games by a combined two points before falling to South Fort Myers in the Class 3A-Region 3 final. Southeast loses a bevy of talent from last year's team, most notably linebacker Desmond Blue, named defensive player of the year by both the Bradenton Herald and Sarasota Herald-Tribune and now headed to Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. This year's team doesn't lack for talent, though, led by highly recruited defensive back Brian Poole, who will play in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game in January in St. Petersburg.

The opponent: The Indians are coming off an 8-4 season in which they lost to Manatee High in the Class 5A-Region 3 semifinals. The Burton brothers are gone — defensive end Clay Burton is following his highly touted brother Trey to the University of Florida — but Venice retains senior running back Danny Dillard, who has several offers from Big Ten and ACC schools, according to Scout.com.
