Inmate Dies At Manatee County Jail: Sheriff

A Bradenton man booked into Manatee County Jail at the end of June died in the jail Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A Bradenton man booked into Manatee County Jail at the end of June died Tuesday morning, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Tony Reyes, 58, was found unresponsive near the jail’s shower around 11 a.m. Deputies immediately notified EMS and worked with medical staff to try to resuscitate him using an AED. EMS arrived around 11:30 a.m. and continued life-saving measures.

Reyes was brought to a local hospital by EMS around noon, where he was pronounced dead around 12:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

There were no signs of suspicious circumstances and the death appears to be related to a medical event, detectives said. The official cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy and toxicology report. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Reyes was booked into the jail on June 26 for violation of probation on previous drug-related charges, the sheriff’s office said.
