MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A Kentucky Fried Chicken employee in Manatee County was shot during an argument with customers in the restaurant’s parking lot Thursday night.

Around 8:30 p.m., two men pulled into the drive-thru lane of the KFC at 6301 15th Street E. in Sarasota and got into an argument with the restaurant’s employees at the window about the food they ordered, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Minutes later, two employees left the restaurant and met the customers in the parking lot, where the argument escalated. During the dispute, one of the employees was shot, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooter and the man he was with drove away, heading north on 15th Street East in a newer white vehicle.

The victim was brought to Manatee Memorial Hospital in a personal vehicle and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The shooting victim has been unwilling to provide more information about the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives are working on leads while the investigation continues.
