Local teacher faces multiple challenges

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) English teacher Kristin Schiller has a lot on her plate but still teaches to her fullest.

Schiller faces many things within her life, such as her ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) while also a mother of three children, ages one-and-a-half, eight, and nine. Throughout all those things, she continues to teach.

Schiller said she continues to teach because, “ever since I was four years old and saw Lakewood Ranch for the first time, I knew I wanted to be a teacher (and coach). I have always had a passion for teaching, so I try to keep the perspective that being at work is living my dream.”

Schiller continued, “Life throws curveballs your way, but it's always worth pursuing your passions and working to overcome adversary.”

Schiller said dealing with health concerns is not necessarily entirely negative.

“MS is something I will manage for the rest of my life, but I have learned to turn this weakness into strength’” she said. “I hope my students and children see that I haven't let this disease take away my zest for life and commitments to my passions.”

After missing most of last year, LRHS welcomes her back for the 2026-27 school year.
