Pick-Up Truck Runs Over, Kills Pedestrian Sleeping In Grassy Shoulder Of Road: FHP

A pick-up truck ran over and killed a man sleeping in a grassy shoulder along Bayshore Gardens Parkway early Monday, FL Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A man sleeping in a grassy shoulder along Bayshore Gardens Parkway near 62nd Drive West was run over and killed by a pick-up truck early Monday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The truck's driver, a 40-year-old Bradenton man, was traveling east on Bayshore Gardens Parkway and approached a slight curve in the road just before 5 a.m.

At the same time, the pedestrian, a 68-year-old Sarasota man, was sleeping in the grassy shoulder with his blanket and other belongings.

The truck drove off the road and into the grassy area where the man was sleeping, running him over, FHP said.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by Manatee County EMS.
