Manatee High Routs Southeast High 48-6

After a blocked extra point by the Hurricanes kept the game tied at 6 early in the 2nd quarter, Manatee High demolished their crosstown rival Southeast High 48-6 on Friday night.

Recap: The game started off quite low scoring. Manatee kicked two field goals, the second coming after a fumble recovery, to lead 6-0 with 9:57 to go in the 2nd quarter. On the first play from Southeast's ensuing possession, running back Courtney Allen sprinted 80 yards for a touchdown. But Manatee's Darius White blocked the extra point attempt to keep the game tied 6-6.

Manatee answered back. After a long kick return by Anthony Lauro, quarterback Cord Sandberg ran it in to give the Hurricanes a 13-6 lead. Several minutes later, running back Leon Allen ran 31 yards untouched for a touchdown. Manatee would add one more touchdown, the second by Allen, right before the half to lead 27-6 going into the break.

But it was in in the 3rd quarter when the game got out of hand for the Seminoles. Less than a minute after another touchdown run by Sandberg, Manatee defensive back Willie Smith intercepted a pass by Southeast quarterback Myles Braxton-Johnson. On the next play, Sandberg would add his third touchdown run of the game. Then nine seconds later, Southeast's Bobby Haines fumbled and Manatee's Dentrell Muller recovered the ball and scored to give the Hurricanes a 48-6 lead.

Play of the game: White's extra point block in the 2nd quarter. From that moment on, the game completely shifted in Manatee's favor. Also, the Hurricanes scoring three touchdowns in under two minutes to blow the game open in the 3rd quarter.

Player(s) of the game: Sandberg scored three times on quarterback runs. Also, Allen added a pair of touchdowns, including a 31-yard scamper.
