Marshalls Job Openings Draw Hundreds of Applicants
The retailer is opening a new department store in Bradenton.
In a sign of the times, a job fair for 70 openings at a Marshalls department store planned in Bradenton drew hundreds of applicants Wednesday.
The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported that people packed the Suncoast Workforce's Career Center Wednesday for a chance at the openings.
"A lot of people are looking at their transferrable skills," Mark Staddler, a Marshalls store manager, told the Sarasota Herald Tribune. Staddler said that Marshalls is seeing applicants who a few years ago would never have considered a retail job.
Most of the jobs were part time without benefits, with many starting at $8 an hour. People attending the job fair remarked that it is still tough to find a job in the challenging economy.
