Motorcyclist Dies In Palmetto Crash: FL Highway Patrol

A man was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a van in a crash on U.S. 41 Sunday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol said.

PALMETTO, FL — A 53-year-old Ellenton man died after he was thrown from his motorcycle in a Palmetto crash Sunday afternoon, according to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 5 p.m., the motorcyclist was traveling south on U.S. 41, just south of 43rd Street East when a van stopped on the paved median turn lane, preparing to turn south onto the road.

The motorcyclist entered the grass median and hit a yield sign and the van’s right side. He was thrown from his motorcycle, landing on U.S. 41., and later pronounced dead, FHP said.

The van’s driver, a 51-year-old Palmetto man, was uninjured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
