BRADENTON, FL — An eerie evening of theatrical works at the Manatee Performing Arts Center celebrates author and master of the macabre Edgar Allan Poe.

“Murder, Mystery & Poe” will run Oct. 21-31 at the performing arts center’s Bradenton Kiwanis Theater, which is located at 502 Third Ave. West in Bradenton.

The evening’s first act will feature Poe’s tale of revenge and murder, “The Cask of Amontillado.”

Following intermission is an adaptation of his story “The Tell-Tale Heart,” detailing one woman’s descent into madness.

In “An Evening with Gwendolyn,” Gwendolyn Crosley, wife of inventor Powel Crosley, attends a séance and is disappointed that she didn’t get to speak with her favorite author, Poe. She did make contact with a friend of his, Sarah Royster, though. It was a brief encounter and Gwendolyn returned home from the event alone – or did she.
