Palmetto COVID Vaccination Site Closing Permanently Friday: DOH

The vaccination site operated by the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County at the Palmetto bus station will close permanently.

PALMETTO, FL — The COVID-19 vaccination site operated by the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County at the Palmetto bus station will close permanently Friday, the DOH said in a news release.

Those seeking a vaccination should visit the DOH clinic at 410 6th Ave. E. in Bradenton instead. The clinic continues to offer the first, second and third doses of the Pfizer and Moderna brand vaccines, as well as the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, to anyone 12 and older at no cost.

Vaccinations at the DOH clinic are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment only. Call 941-242-6646 to book an appointment.

Anyone who qualifies for a COVID-19 vaccination and hasn’t already received one – even those who have already had the virus - is strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, the DOH said.

The DOH added that the vaccines are “safe” and “have proven effective in preventing illness and death due to the virus.”

“We’re especially glad to hear that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recently approved Pfizer’s brand of COVID-19 vaccine,” DOH-Manatee Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Bencie said. “Anything that can help alleviate the concerns of those who are still hesitant to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for any reason is welcome.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for people whose immune systems are compromised. Third doses are available through the DOH.

COVID-19 testing continues to be offered outdoors at the Bradenton Area Convention Center daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The site offers both PCR and rapid testing.
