Pasta-Loving Raccoon Saved By Deputies

The critter managed to get its head stuck in a Chef Boyardee can and needed a hand to escape.

BRADENTON, FL — Chef Boyardee pasta isn’t just a kids’ favorite, it seems local raccoons also covet its flavor.

At least that appeared to be the case early Monday morning when Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies came across an unusual sight in the 3200 block of 47th Avenue East. They happened to spot a tiny raccoon running around with a Chef Boyardee can stuck on its head.

Believing that protecting and serving extends to four-legged critters, as well as people, the deputies stepped in to help unstick the properly stuck critter. It didn’t take long to free the raccoon and send it on its way.

First responders taking time out to assist creatures isn’t at all unheard of along Florida’s west coast. In December, Clearwater’s assistant fire chief spent a few hours helping free a kitten from a car’s dashboard. Back in March, Lakeland cops pitched in to save 9 ducklings who managed to become trapped in a storm drain. And, in Hillsborough County, the same fire crew managed to save 12 ducklings and one pooch in a single day.
