Pirates Report: Feb. 22

Your daily guide to what's going on with the Pittsburgh Pirates this spring in Bradenton.

YESTERDAY AT CAMP (FEB. 21):

  • All Pittsburgh Pirates players and staff members met with Pirates Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting for 15 minutes prior to the team's workout at .
  • Third baseman Pedro Alvarez missed the workout due to a muscle spasm in his neck. His status is “day to day.”
  • All pitchers were given the day off from throwing a bullpen session or to hitters. In separate groups, they participated in bunting drills, a light throwing program and pitchers fielding practice. After they conditioned, the pitchers left the fields at 12:15 p.m.
  • Position players took part in early work from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
  • Position players also participated in base running drills and a throwing program before taking part in the daily team fundamental (cutoffs and relays). After individual defensive drills, the players took BP off various coaches, conditioned and were off the fields by 12:45 p.m.
  • All players and Major League staff members had a 45-minute meeting with umpire supervisors Charlie Reliford and Larry Young to discuss umpiring and on field spring training operations.

TODAY AT CAMP (FEB. 22):

Players generally hit the field between 9 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. daily during workouts. Practices are free and open to the publc. Schedules are subject to change.
