PIRATES 10, RAYS 3

Andrew McCutchen homered, singled, doubled, stole a base and scored three runs as Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay in the Pirates' spring home opener before a crowd of 6,376 at McKechnie Field.

Garrett Jones went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Pirates. Starter Kevin Correia gave up two hits, two walks and two earned runs and was pulled with one out in the second inning. Joe Beimel did not pitch as expected due to a little soreness in his throwing elbow.

Jason Jaramillo also hit a solo homer for Pittsburgh (1-1).

The Rays (1-1) brought starters Kelly Shoppach and Matt Joyce, plus starter James Shields, up from Port Charlotte, along with top prospects Desmond Jennings and Tim Beckham.

The Pirates will play two split-squad games on Monday, hosting the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. and visiting the Rays again in Port Charlotte, also at 1:05 p.m. Paul Maholm is scheduled to start in Bradenton against Baltimore’s Brad Bergesen. Bryan Morris will face Tampa Bay's Jeff Niemann in Port Charlotte.
