PIRATES 8, RAYS 7:
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 on Friday afternoon in Port Charlotte but lost outfielder Andrew McCutchen and starting pitcher James McDonald to injuries.
McCutchen went 2-for-2 with an RBI before leaving the game with discomfort in his left wrist.

The Pirates said both players would be further evaluated upon their return to Bradenton and updates would be provided Saturday.

The Pirates (7-8) had a spring-high 15 hits Friday, including John Bowker's pinch-hit, two-run homer.
Wade Davis allowed four runs on seven hits in three innings for the Rays (5-8).
UP NEXT (MARCH 12):
The Pirates have two split-squad games at 1:05 p.m. Saturday — against the Philadelphia Phillies in Bradenton and against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin.
Ross Ohlendorf is scheduled to start at McKechnie Field against Philadelphia's Vance Worley. Jose Veras, Aaron Thompson, Tyler Yates and Tony Watson are slated to pitch in Bradenton.
In Dunedin, Jeff Locke will start for Pittsburgh against Toronto's Ricky Romero. Sean Gallagher, Daniel McCutchen, Ramon Aguero and Mike Crotta are also set to pitch in the game.
