TWINS 4, PIRATES 2:
Jose Tabata went 3-for-3 with an RBI as the leadoff batter, and Pittsburgh pitchers combined to strike out 10 batters, but the Pirates still dropped a 4-2 decision to the visiting Minnesota Twins in front of an announced crowd of 3,959 on Wednesday at McKechnie Field.
Pedro Alvarez played the first six innings at third base and went 1-for-3 with a double for the Pirates (3-3). Steve Pearce served as DH for the entire game and went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Luke Hughes hit a solo home run for the Twins (2-2) to back winning pitcher Brian Duensing.

UP NEXT (MARCH 3):
The Pirates are scheduled to play the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin at 1:05 p.m. Thursday. Charlie Morton is expected to start for Pittsburgh against Toronto’s Brett Cecil. Brad Lincoln, Tyler Yates, Jeff Locke and Cesar Valdez are also scheduled to pitch for the Pirates.
