Pirates Report: March 21

TWINS 4, PIRATES 1:

Paul Maholm allowed nine hits over six innings with two earned runs, but the Pittsburgh Pirates offense mustered just six hits in a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday before 5,902 fans at McKechnie Field.

Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-3 from the leadoff spot and has now reached base safely in 12 games for the Pirates (10-15).

Left-hander Garrett Olsen made his debut for Pittsburgh and pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Brian Duensing picked up the win for Minnesota (13-10).

The Pirates have an off day Tuesday before resuming action at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday against the Houston Astros in Bradenton. Brian Burres is scheduled to start for Pittsburgh against Houston’s J.A. Happ.
