PIRATES 4, BLUE JAYS 1:

Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run triple as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Thursday in Dunedin.

Starter Charlie Morton retired each of the last seven batters he faced after allowing a run-scoring single to Jose Bautista in the first inning. Reliever Brad Lincoln retired each of the nine batters he faced.

Jason Jaramillo doubled twice and scored a run for the Pirates (4-3).

The game also featured a family reunion between Pirates third baseman Jeremy Farrell, a former Bradenton Marauder, and his father, John, who is the Blue Jays' new manager. Jeremy pinch-hit in the game and went 0-for-1.

The Pirates also announced Thursday they have agreed to terms with 27 players for the 2011 season, including Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones, Brad Lincoln, Evan Meek, Jose Tabata and Neil Walker.

Others inking a new deal Thursday: Ramon Aguero, Jose Ascanio, John Bowker, Pedro Ciriaco, Mike Crotta, Kevin Hart, Gorkys Hernandez, Jason Jaramillo, Chris Leroux, Jeff Locke, Daniel McCutchen, James McDonald, Kyle McPherson, Bryan Morris, Charlie Morton, Daniel Moskos, Steve Pearce, Alex Presley, Chris Resop, Josh Rodriguez and Tony Watson.

UP NEXT (MARCH 4):

The Pirates return home to face the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05 p.m. Friday. Kevin Correia is expected to start for Pittsburgh against Philadelphia’s Joe Blanton. Brian Burres, Fernando Nieve, Bryan Morris, Kyle McPherson and Daniel Moskos are also scheduled to pitch for the Pirates.
