SCF Concert to Commemorate Pearl Harbor Day

The SCF Big Band & Jazz Combo will present "Jazz From Pearl Harbor: A Veterans Tribute" at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Big Band & Jazz Combo will present “Jazz From Pearl Harbor: A Veterans Tribute” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W.

Return to that infamous day in history as the band recreates a USO wartime radio broadcast from 1941 immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The broadcast will include music from big bands of the era that performed on warships in the Atlantic and Pacific and will highlight the music of Benny
Goodman, Artie Shaw, Harry James and Glenn Miller.

“After Pearl Harbor, jazz bands became USO touring groups to support the war efforts, performing on many battlefields and raising war bonds at home,” said Pete Carney, director of jazz studies at SCF.
