SCF Director of Nursing Presents Research at Oxford University

Jean Davis, the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program Director for State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), presented research last week during the 2017 International Movement: Brain, Body and Cognition Conference at The University of Oxford in England.

Her pilot research study, presented July 10 and titled “Physical Activity Habit Formation Through a 10,000 Steps Program,” is designed to tailor health and wellness activities based on cultural preferences. Davis is dedicated to working with transcultural populations, including students, health care providers, patients and families, to help them build better exercise habits. The nursing students in the BSN program also benefit from her efforts to emphasize the importance of transcultural awareness.

“The conference was a wonderful opportunity to meet with global researchers, share expertise, and showcase SCF,” Davis said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to present my work on physical activity habit development.”

The conference, which concluded Tuesday, is sponsored by Harvard University School of Medicine’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital; the M.I.N.D. Institute at M.I.T.; the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; the Wingate Institute for Sports and Exercise Science; the National Institute for Brain and Rehabilitation
Sciences, Nazareth, Israel; the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Havana; and Bielefeld University in Germany. The conference addressed issues related to gait, motion, movement rehabilitation, movement and cognition, as well as optimized movement in elite athletes.

Davis serves as the program director for SCF’s study abroad program, which emphasizes studies in community health for nurses in the BSN program.
