SCF Honors Program to Offer Interdisciplinary Exploration

The Honors Program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will focus on an interdisciplinary exploration of life’s greatest questions beginning in the Fall with classes at SCF Venice. Successful students will experience meaningful hands-on community service and an opportunity to perform undergraduate research with faculty. In addition, they will receive an Honors Program designation on their transcripts, increasing their prospects for university transfers and jobs.

The interdisciplinary Honors Program, part of the National Collegiate Honors Council, is designed to challenge students and help them develop critical thinking, and research and communication skills. Students accepted into the program can enroll in three interdisciplinary honors courses the first year. Throughout the program’s second year, students will be required to attend a series of Honors Program seminars featuring guest speakers and complete an Honors Capstone project. The Honors Program also emphasizes civic engagement and what it means to the community as well as the individual student through discussions and community projects.

To be accepted into the Honors Program, students must have qualifying test scores on one of the following: SAT, PERT, ACT, or the CPT. SCF Honors expects a high school or college GPA of 3.25, and students must provide two letters of recommendation and a writing sample. Applications received by July 15 will be given first consideration.
