SCF Students Attend Financial Literacy Day Conference

Students in Kristen L. Zaborski’s Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics courses at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) recently attended the Financial Literacy Day Conference at University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM). The conference, held annually in April, which is Financial Literacy Month, featured a keynote address by Raphael W. Bostic, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Bostic also serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve’s chief monetary policy body.

During his keynote address, Bostic stressed to students the importance of having strong financial literacy skills in today’s economy. Zaborski, an assistant professor of economics at SCF, agreed. “I teach my SCF students the importance of saving to build wealth that can then be used to invest in an individual retirement account. Poor financial choices can have long-term consequences over the course of one’s life.”

The SCF students also learned about developments in the municipal financial market, the use of quantitative measurement and technical analysis in the stock market, the outlook for the U.S. and world stock markets, and more about the U.S. banking system.
