Proposed 2011-12 School Calendar Released; What Do You Think?

Classes would be in session from Aug. 22 to June 6, according to current proposal.

Manatee County students would begin classes on Monday, Aug. 22, and the school year would end Wednesday, June 6 of next year, according to a proposed 2011-12 school calendar put forward by district officials.

Notices and copies of the draft calendar were sent Tuesday to the media, the teachers' union and to each school in the district, according to district policy, and the information is posted on the district's website. Students, parents, district employees and the general public are invited to provide input regarding the proposed calendar.

Input can be sent via e-mail to Mike Wilder, the district's coordinator of school leadership development, at wilderm@manateeschools.net, or via phone at (941) 708-8770, ext. 2247, until Jan. 14. The input will be collected and presented to Superintendent Tim McGonegal for his consideration.

The current school year began Aug. 23, 2010, and will end June 9.

The 2011-12 academic school calendar will be presented to the School Board for its consideration at their Jan. 24 meeting, to be held at 5:45 p.m. in the board room of the , 215 Manatee Ave. W.
