September 11 especially poignant for local school guardian

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Wednesday, a moment of silence was held at Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) and across the nation to remember and pay respect to the people that lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The moment of silence was held at approximately 10:30.

LRHS guardian Louis Cruz experienced 9-11 as a New York police officer.
Cruz said, “The moment of silence is to pay respect to the fallen heroes and those that have given their lives for that day.”

Cruz was on site while the attack occurred. Cruz said his memories are “Very somber and heart-breaking.”
Although the situation was scary, Cruz said he remained “calm during the event and helped people to safety as quick as possible.”
During the moment of silence, Cruz said he felt “sad and emotional for all of the lives people lost that day.”
LRHS sophomore Cameron Perry said, “The moment of silence is to be respected and remain still by lowering your head and reflecting on the moment.”
