Teen Playing With Gun Shot, Killed 18-Year-Old: Manatee Sheriff

A teenager playing with a gun while in a parked vehicle accidentally shot and killed an 18-year-old last month, Manatee County sheriff said.

BRADENTON, FL — A teenager playing with a gun while in a parked vehicle accidentally shot and killed an 18-year-old last month, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Jabarre Burney, 18, was charged Friday with manslaughter in the shooting death of Reginald Fields.

Detectives responded to a call about a person being shot in the 3500 block of 5th Street E. on March 2 around 6:30 p.m.

They learned that Fields had already been taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries just before 7 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators that Fields was inside a parked vehicle with other people when the gun went off.

During their investigation, detectives determined that Burney was playing with the gun when it fired, the bullet hitting Fields.
