Theatre Students Present One-Act Plays at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota

Studio 84 Productions at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present two one-act plays to open the fall theatre season at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at SCF’s Howard Studio Theatre, 5840 26th St. W., Bradenton.

The first play, “4 AM” by Jonathan Dorf, is a series of short stories about those awake at the magical hour of 4 a.m. The vignettes range from being lost and lonely to a modern take on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” all coming together in a universal call for connection.

The second play, “Selfie” by Bradley Hayward, looks at high school seniors preparing for the future and what’s really going on behind those selfies on social media. These students are faced with bullying, parent pressures, sickness and their own self-judgment. The coming-of-age journey is one that will resonate with audiences of all ages.

The cast includes SCF and State College of Florida Collegiate School students Yeshe Breeze, Nick Catanzaro, Colby Fox, Debbie Echevarria, Samuel Echevarria, Alexandra Ladyzhensky, Emily Marrero, Jonathan Martinez, Vanessa Panelli, Veronica Powell, Roxanne Smith, Connee Marie Therieau and Melanie Waters.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30; Saturday, Oct. 1; Friday, Oct. 7; and Saturday, Oct. 8. Two Sunday performances are scheduled at 2 p.m. Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 20. General admission is $12; student tickets are $6.
