Think You Cook The Best Meat Loaf?

This is the "Other Than Football" roundup of bar happenings in Bradenton this weekend.

There is plenty going on across town this weekend in Bradenton. Live music, drink specials, meat loaf and more – all happening throughout Bradenton’s bar scene.

  • , 5600 Manatee Ave. W., is not only the longtime home of its famous ribeye cheese steak sandwich, but it also has happy hour from 4-7 p.m. on weekdays with $1 drafts, $1.75 bottles and $5.50 pitchers.
  • The new place, , 801 Riverside Drive E., always has live music – weather permitting. If the weather cooperates Friday, stop by for some uplifting tunes from the area’s premier reggae/Caribbean music band Democracy from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy happy hour specials during Democracy’s set. At 7 p.m., Roberto DeBourg & The Flats take the stage with their style of music influenced by Flamenco/Latin, pop, dance, reggae, contemporary, alternative and jazz/funk.
  • Bob Margolin said old-school Chicago blues is what continues to influence him today. He’s performing live at , 4343 Palma Sola Blvd., at 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 in advance or $13 at the door. This is a non-smoking show. Click here to order tickets. Local band Katalyst performs at 9 p.m. Saturday. No cover for Saturday’s show. And you can smoke.
  • , 420 301 Blvd. E., is hosting its monthly party this Saturday. Same time, same place. You know the drill! Well, for those that don’t, stop by this family-owned landmark for a free, home-cooked meal from the Dorics family and a selection of sides from its loyal following. The food comes out around 6 p.m. and the karaoke machine soon after. Hi-Way Bar has some of the best beer deals and friendliest people in town and the first Saturday of the month is the best time to stop by.
  • There’s apparently some trash talking going on at , 2604 Manatee Ave. E., about who cooks the best meatloaf. If you think you’re the best – or if you just want to mooch helpings of meatloaf from the contestants – visit Last Call Saturday night for a meat loaf bake off. The event starts at 7 p.m. Thirsty? Domestic beer buckets are $12 each and margaritas are $2.50 all night.
