What’s Open, Closed In Manatee County After Hurricane Ian

After Hurricane Ian hit Southwest Florida, here's a look at what's open and what services are available in the Bradenton area.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — The day after Hurricane Ian pummeled Southwest Florida — especially the Fort Myers area, where the death toll is estimated to be in the hundreds — communities are clearing debris and already focused on recovery.

In Manatee County, crews are working to remove debris from the roads and properties following the powerful Category 4 storm.

Those in the Bradenton area might be wondering what’s open in the region — from government offices and services to local attractions and cultural institutions — or what might be opening soon.

Here’s a look at what’s open and what’s closed after Hurricane Ian’s hit to Manatee County:

  • All evacuation centers closed Thursday.
  • Manatee County Schools are closed through Friday. School is expected to resume Monday morning.
  • Manatee County Public Libraries are closed until further notice.
  • Manatee County parks and preserves are closed until further notice.
  • The clerk and comptroller’s office is closed through Thursday.
  • The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is closed through Thursday.
  • County building and construction inspection services are suspended until further notice.
  • While water is being restored to homes where it was turned off, residents are asked to boil it if they want to drink or cook with it.
  • Manatee County Area Transit is not running Thursday. It will return to a normal operating schedule on Friday.
  • Manatee County garbage and recycling pick-up is canceled through the end of the week.
  • If conditions allow, the city of Bradenton’s Thursday solid waste routes will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s routes on Saturday.
  • The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature is closed through Thursday.
  • The Manatee County Agricultural Museum is closed until it’s safe for visitors to return.
  • The Manatee Village Historical Park is close until further notice.
  • The Palmetto Historical Park is closed until further notice.
  • The Florida Maritime Museum is closed until further notice.
