Woman Drove SUV Into Train’s Path Despite Yield Sign: FHP

PALMETTO, FL — A 32-year-old Palmetto woman was seriously injured after driving her SUV into the path of an oncoming train despite a yield sign in place, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The woman tried to cross the railroad tracks at 25th Street West and Bayshore Road in Palmetto as the southbound train approached the intersection around 1:30 p.m.

She disregarded the yield sign and drove directly into the train’s path, FHP said. The train hit the left side of the SUV.

She was brought to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
