Wrong-Way Driver Hit SUV On I-75 In Manatee, 2 Injured: FHP

A wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence hit an SUV on I-75 Monday morning in Manatee County, FL Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence hit an SUV on I-75 Monday morning in Manatee County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

A 23-year-old Palm Harbor man was driving his car north in the southbound travel lane on I-75 south of mile marker 227 just after 1 a.m., the agency said.

An SUV was traveling south on I-75 at the same time when it was hit by the wrong-way car, FHP said.

The car's driver and the SUV's driver, a 70-year-old Port Charlotte man, were seriously injured in the crash. They were brought to a nearby hospital.

The SUV's passenger, a 69-year-old Port Charlotte man, suffered minor injuries.

A DUI investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, FHP said.
