An ice-cold beer tastes better when it's hot outside — especially when you're inside a bar with air conditioning.
Try your hand at Poker, check out a piece of history (and have a drink in it) or "Get Your Clam On" at one of these "cool" places this weekend:
- , 1814 14th St. W., has been around since the World War II era. Beers on tap include Budweiser, Bud Light, AmberBock and Natural Light and cost a mere $1.25. Natural Light is only a buck and most domestic bottles are $2.25. The Gator also sells scratch-off lottery tickets, Slim Jims and potato chips along with top-shelf brands of liquor like Jameson, Jose Cuervo, Patron, Jim Beam and Chrystal Head Vodka. It’s open from 10 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
- Thursday is poker night at , 3102 53rd Ave. E., with back-to-back single table games of Texas Hold'em Poker from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. There’s no cost to play but you can win “bar bucks” and other specials (they’ve given away hotel stays before). Shot specials are $2 throughout the night.
- , 6218 Cortez Rd., Matt Brown 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday followed by weekly Summer Karaoke Nights until midnight. Friday nights are also College Student Night from 9 p.m. to midnight. So if you have your college ID – and you’re at least 21 years old, of course – enjoy $2 shots (bartender’s choice) and free pool. Clancy’s has the MLB Extra Innings sports package, so catch your favorite baseball team on the tube.
- , 10104 Cortez Rd., has live music from Taylor Taylor from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. Happy hour special all afternoon until 7 p.m. with 16-ounce drafts for $1.50, domestic bottles $2.25 and wells $2.50. But don’t forget to check out the raw bar which is filled with locally-raised clams and stone crabs from Cortez Fishing Village.
- , 5131 14th St. W., live blues, soul and Motown by NFL great Henry Lawrence and blues legend "Big" Jesse Yawn from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy a delicious buffet of home-cooked soul food. Cover: $10.
