4 Burgers Up for Florida State Fair's People's Choice Honors

TAMPA, FL — Burger lovers with a taste for something different may want to get ready to cast their votes in this year’s People’s Choice Burger Award competition.

The second annual event pits four different burger creations against each other. The winning burger will make it on the fair’s menu during this year’s Feb. 4-15 run. Now in its second year, the burger competition is noted for its distinct mash ups that blend flavors that most people wouldn’t normally consider putting together.

The four burgers residents can vote for in this year’s competition are:

• The French Toast Burger – This creation includes a burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, cheese and bacon sandwiched on two slices of homemade French toast, complete with a drizzle of a special sauce. There’s no word on what that sauce might be.
• The Ice Cream Burger – This entry blends a meal and dessert into one creation. It’s a cheeseburger with all the fixings topped with a scoop of Mexican-style fried ice cream.
• The Redneck Burger – This jumbo concoction includes a burger patty topped with bacon and cheese. On top of that goes fried bologna, baked beans, potato sticks, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It’s served up on a toasted bun.
• The Bacon Bomb Explosion Burger – This ground chuck burger is seasoned with ranch, barbecue sauce and a special seasoning. It also boasts bacon crumbles with meat wrapped in a “lattice of fresh bacon and slow roasted with hickory smoke until golden brown, then sliced into patties,” the fair announced. “This mouthful of a burger is served on a Kaiser roll with a slice of cheese and a few more strips of bacon – if you can handle it. Add lettuce tomato, onion and pickles.”

Voting for the 2nd Annual People’s Choice Burger Award begins Jan. 20 and runs through Jan. 27 at www.FloridaStateFair.com. The Bacon Bomb Burger Explosion, by the way, will be on the menu no matter how voting turns out, the fair promised.
