Happy Anniversary Hillsborough!

It’s a wonderful sunny day here in Hillsborough and time to start celebrating the first anniversary of the firing of School not-so-superintendent MaryEllen Elia (article). We should make this an official commemorative day here in Hillsborough; maybe Mayor Buckhorn could issue a proclamation…oh, never mind.

And what better weather to celebrate; in Florida we hardly even realize that it is winter while in Albany, New York with MaryEllen it is dark, freezing and snowing. It was just a year ago that the Hillsborough County School Board fired MaryEllen Elia and sent her packing back to where she came from- New York. Dreams of the sunny Florida retirement lifestyle dashed. Apparently MaryEllen was too ashamed to show her face around her lily white South Tampa neighborhood and looking for a climate more suitable to her level of deliberate indifference to special needs students.

Is it just coincidence that MaryEllen was fired almost 3 years to the day after student Isabella Herrera died from neglect on a School bus ride that MaryEllen Eliar compounded by not tell the School Board about for 9 months (article) until another student, Jenny Caballero drowned at her school? It has been noted that Isabella Herrera choking on a school bus coincided with Tampa preparing for the Republican National Convention dictated by Mayor B.O.B. “Black$ On Bike$” Buckhorn who treated Tampa like a police state while it was in the national spotlight, including communications. He must have thought comrade MaryEllen, then Chair Candy Olson, then Chief Facilities Officer Cathy Valdes, and the Sheriff’s Department (article) all did a great job keeping this student death covered up from January until the end of August when the Republican National Convention finally ended. But then, because of their lack of action, another student died.

When a child choking on a school bus is covered up, Bob doesn’t have anything to say about that; but when MaryEllen is later fired Bob is tweeting the entire country about how stupid Tampa’s Hillsborough school board is. Nice to see your true colors Bob; apparently your only interest in this matter was how it might help you get elected governor in 2018, and you were counting on MaryEllen Elia to continue intimidating staff and use the School District resources to distribute newspapers to school children and staff to support you (article).

In New York, MaryEllen started out her new job much the same as she did here- bullying the parents by saying that it was unethical to opt out of their standardized testing. That’s right; MaryEllen who unethically opted out of telling the School Board about the choking death of a student on a bus was lecturing parents about ethics and communication.

Back in Tampa, BOB wants to take his “Black$ On Bike$” law enforcement funding program statewide.
