Hillsborough County Opening Cold Weather Shelters

The county's shelters are opening as temperatures are expected to plummet.

With the cold front moving into the Tampa Bay area expected to bring temperatures down to near freezing Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, Hillsborough County has announced the opening of its shelters.

Residents who live in homes without adequate heat are invited to stay at one of the shelters Tuesday evening. Those who need assistance getting to a shelter can call 813-272-7272 between 6 and 9 p.m. Tuesday for a ride. Transportation is only available to those who have no other way of getting to a shelter.

This shelter opens at 6 p.m. and is for adults and families.

This shelter opens at 4 p.m. and is for families.

This shelter opens at 4 p.m. and is for adults only.

Donations of shelter supplies, such as blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, toothpaste, tooth brushes, coffee and more are also being accepted at the Bethune Recreation Center, Brandon Community Center, and Jackson Springs Recreation Center. The Salvation Army could also use blankets, the county reported in a media release.
