Raises: When Will Hillsborough Teachers, Others Get Theirs?

The Hillsborough County School Board on Oct. 9 officially approved pay increases for teachers, administrative support staff, non-represented employees, and administrators. Raises for instructional support employees were approved in September.

Here's what you need to know about the raises, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County School District:

• Eligible teachers, administrative support staff, and administrators will advance one pay level. All pay levels will increase by 1.5 percent.

• Raises for employees represented by the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association will appear on their November 2 paychecks; retroactive pay will be in their November 16 paychecks. 

• Eligible instructional support workers will advance two pay levels.

• Raises for employees represented by the Hillsborough School Employees Federation will begin on October 19, and retroactive pay will be in their November 2 paychecks.

• The district will continue to pay the cost of fingerprint monitoring for approximately 20 percent of employees, and for the employee-only health insurance premium designated by the board.

• Committees will be named to study salaries for nursing positions and bilingual aides.

• The district will cover the full cost of uniforms for eligible employees.

• National Board certified teachers with 10 documented hours of mentoring or tutoring will receive $1,000 bonuses.

• Certain exceptional student education teachers will be eligible for $500 bonuses.

• The board's vote came a day after teachers, with a 98 percent vote, approved the negotiated contract and salary.

• The Hillsborough School Employees Federation (HSEF) approved its approval with an even higher percentage rate.
