Publix Named Among 'World's Most Admired Companies'

LAKELAND, FL — When it comes to big companies with strong reputations on the global front, Tampa Bay’s Publix makes the cut.

That’s according to Fortune, which recently released its list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.” The “definitive report card on corporate reputations” is based on a number of factors, including industry surveys that cover such metrics as investment value and social responsibility.

The Top 50 listing for 2016 boasts a trio of tech companies in the highest positions. Apple scored first-place honors while Google’s parent company Alphabet came in second. Amazon rounded out the top three.

Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets debuted on the list this year at No. 49. Publix has also been racking up honors in the customer service department. The company was named America’s second favorite grocery chain last year and also scored high in a national customer satisfaction survey.

“Publix is a strong, healthy, vibrant company because we’ve never departed from the foundation Mr. George (Jenkins) set for us,” CEO Ed Crenshaw said, explaining the company’s success. “For 85 years, we’ve remained focused on serving our customers and taking care of our associates.”

No other Tampa Bay area companies cracked the overall Top 50, but several others earned honors in their respective industries. Tampa-based Jabil Circuit came in eighth in the semiconductors industry while Raymond James Financial earned fifth-place honors in the securities and asset management category. Tech Data came in fourth in electronics and office equipment wholesalers.
