Sinkhole That Swallowed Man in Bed Reopens

The hole is located at 240 Faithway Drive in Seffner.

It’s been more than two years since a sinkhole opened up at 240 Faithway Drive in Seffner, claiming the life of Jeffrey Bush.

On Wednesday, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported that another sinkhole has opened up in “the exact same location where we responded to before and that unfortunately a life was lost.”

Fire rescue and county code enforcement were called out to the home and reported the news about the most recent sinkhole activity at that location Wednesday.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that this is the same sinkhole,” an email from fire rescue stated.

Bush, 36, was asleep in bed around 11 p.m. Feb. 28, 2013, when the ground opened up beneath his home and swallowed him, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry McKinnon said at the time.

“It’s a movie scene behind there,” said McKinnon. “That’s what it is.”

McKinnon said Bush’s mother was asleep in another room when she heard a loud crunching sound. When she rushed to her son’s room, she saw that the entire floor had caved in and her son was gone.

An extensive search was conducted for Bush, but his body was never recovered.

Further information is not yet available about the latest occurrence at 240 Faithway Drive.
