BRANDON, FL — It's a different Fourth of July this year because of the ongoing pandemic. Brandon's 4th of July Parade and many other area celebrations are canceled, leaving residents to find ways to celebrate at home. However, we can count on a scheduled holiday.

Because July 4 falls on a Saturday, the Independence Day holiday is observed on Friday, July 3. The majority of Hillsborough County offices and facilities will be closed on July 3, and other services will have schedule changes.

Here are the openings and closings to know around the holiday:

  • Library branches remain closed due to the pandemic. You can access contact-free curbside holds pickup and curbside printing, scanning, faxing, and copying at these library locations. However, these services will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July, 4. For more information about the libraries, visit Hillsborough County Libraries.
  • Trash, recycling and yard waste pickup
    • July 3 - Normal service schedule
  • Post offices are closed on Saturday, July 4.
    Hillsborough County Facilities Closed On July 3:
  • County’s Customer Service Center at (813) 272-5900
  • Parks & Recreation summer camps
  • Development Services functions
  • Sunshine Line transportation service
  • Michael S. Merrill Pet Resource Center. A limited number of Animal Safety and Enforcement officers will be on call for emergencies only. Submit a request via the Animal Request button.
  • Public Utilities customer service center drive-thru in Brandon. Emergency calls regarding County water and wastewater services may be made to (813) 744-5600.

Hillsborough County Closures On Saturday, July 4:

  • There will be no solid waste collection (including garbage, recyclables, and yard waste) in the unincorporated Hillsborough County Service Area, which also includes Tampa Palms, Hunter’s Green and New Tampa. For customers whose collection day falls on Saturday, normal service will resume on the next scheduled day for pickup of those items.
  • The Southeast County Landfill, Northwest and South County transfer stations, Resource Recovery Facility, community collection centers and yard waste processing facilities.
  • COVID-19 public testing operations at Raymond James Stadium and at Suncoast Community Health Center in Brandon. All other public testing sites are normally closed on Saturdays.
  • All branches of the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative

  • Dog parks, conservation parks, nature preserves, trails and boat ramps. For a complete list, visit the “Current Closures & Reopenings” link at HCFLGov.net/StaySafe.
  • Veterans Memorial Park will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., observing guidelines for social distancing and non-gatherings. No events are planned. The Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum and the Veteran Resource Center remain closed in step with the County’s COVID-19 response.
