City firefighters commemorate 9/11 with memorial stair climb (capecoralbreeze.com) — Cape Coral firefighters honored the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a demanding memorial stair climb at the Engineer Michael Camelo Jr. Training Center, completing the equivalent of 110 stories in full gear. The closed-to-public event drew fellow firefighters and families, offering a powerful moment of remembrance and reflection on their responsibilities in the community. 
2. Summer fertilizer restrictions remain in effect across much of Southwest Florida (wgcu.org) — Cape Coral residents remain under summer fertilizer restrictions that ban nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing products during the rainy season to protect local waterways from algae blooms. Through September 30, people are urged to avoid fertilizing near canals, clean up yard debris, and skip applications before storms, helping keep neighborhood canals and the Caloosahatchee healthier.
3. Power restored after Cape Coral crane hits power lines, knocking out power to 2,000 homes (winknews.com) — More than 2,000 Cape Coral homes briefly lost electricity Tuesday morning after a crane on a barge snagged power lines near Southwest 2nd Avenue and Southwest 40th Street. LCEC crews restored most power within hours and are urging boaters to keep at least 10 feet of clearance from overhead lines as they consider adding more warning signs in local canals.
4. Wild About Wildlife! brings hands-on environmental education to Cape Coral students (floridaweekly.com) — Families in Cape Coral can mark their calendars for a free, hands-on wildlife education day at the Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. Kids in grades K–12 can meet environmental experts, see live animals, try science experiments, and learn how to protect Southwest Florida's unique wildlife and habitats alongside their parents.
5. SW Florida city 'best' among the worst in Sunshine State for skin stress (naplesnews.com) — Cape Coral stands out with the lowest skin-stress score among seven Florida cities evaluated in a new national study, giving local residents some reassuring news about their environment. While Orlando, Miami, and Tampa rank among the worst U.S. cities for skin stress, Cape Coral's relatively better air quality, UV exposure, and search trends suggest comparatively less strain on residents' skin health.
