Borders’ Space Bought By Florida Medical Clinic

The building will be used for medical offices.

Carrollwood residents wondering what would take over the space formerly occupied by Borders bookstore now have an answer.

Land O’ Lakes-based Florida Medical Clinic recently purchased the site for $3.8 million, according to Gulf Coast Business Review. The space will be used to consolidate the medical company’s existing offices in the area under a single roof, the review reported.

The 12500 N. Dale Mabry Highway after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. The building has since been vacant leading many to wonder what type of business would eventually claim the space.

A published in December chronicled the store’s closing and those of other nearby businesses. At the time, Patch readers shared some of their ideas for the space.

“Too bad Costco doesn't grab up some of that space and build a location in North Tampa,” wrote Sara. “No more Yogurt shops please we are now maxed out with at least 4! No chain restaurants but a good, casual Mexican or Italian place - nothing fancy, would be a nice addition to the area.”

Florida Medical Clinic selected the Borders’ site because of its convenient location, officials said.

“It’s close to St. Joseph’s [Hospital], which will be great for our surgeons,” Janet Wing, director of marketing for Florida Medical Clinic told the Gulf Coast Business Review. “The location is excellent with great corner access. It’s convenient for our patients to find us, and it allows us to locate all our ancillary patient services under one roof.”
