Week 2, And I'm Ready For You ...

Make sure you're ready to show off your business when a prospective client is standing in front of you!

… but are you ready for me? You should be!

People are going to come at you at all kind of events from networking to sporting events to school functions. Are you ready for them? if you own a business, you need to be. What do I mean by this? Simple…there is never a time I don't have cards, a branded shirt or some kind of identifier on me because you never know when someone will see you and ask about your business or say they've been looking for someone who does what you do.

OK, OK…don't worry…I'm going to give you some tips and pointers here so that you're always prepared and ready.

Find out what's happening in Carrollwood-Northdalefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

  1. Always, always, always have business cards with you. If you don't have some, shame on you. You get a hall pass today only. Call a business that performs this type of service and order some. Make sure they are attractive, easy to read and that you can write on them…seriously. Sometimes, I make notes on the back to remind me of things that were discussed, points of reference, etc. Order the cards and then always have them with you everywhere you go. Did I say always?
  2. If you are at a formal networking event, wear your name tag. Don't have one? Get one. Another hall pass for you. Why do you need a name tag when generally there are always those peel and stick name tags? For a couple reasons…we can't read your handwriting and they just look more professional when they are not the throw away kind! It shows permanence, attention to detail and promotes your business better.
  3. Brand yourself! Wear a shirt, hat, name tag, something…OK, within reason, people. I can't tell you how many times I had been wearing a company shirt and a conversation with a total stranger was started about what I did. You never know when you'll be dropping off clothes at the dry cleaner and someone sees your shirt and asks you about your services. Very simple…helps you narrow down your daily clothing choices and promotes your business. Just do it!

So what have we learned here? We have learned that if you are in business, you will always be exposed to opportunities to present your business to those around you. Are you prepared? Now, you are...
