The Rainmaker @ Carrollwood Players

THE RAINMAKER
by N. Richard Nash

Director: Jim Russell

During a paralyzing drought in the West, we meet a girl whose father and brothers are as worried about her becoming an old maid as they are about their dying cattle.

She is indeed a plain girl. The brothers try every possible scheme to marry her off, without success. Nor is there any sign of relief from the dry heat. Suddenly, a captivating character with a golden tongue appears.

He promises to bring rain, for $100. It's a silly idea, but the rainmaker is so ingratiating that the family finally consents. Meanwhile, he turns his magic on the girl, persuading her that she has a very real beauty of her own. She believes him just as her father believes the rain will come. And it does. And so does love.
