CLEARWATER, FL -- To celebrate its April 13 opening at 26996 U.S. 19 N. in Clearwater, BJ’s Wholesale Club has donated $50,000 from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation to Feeding Tampa Bay.

BJ’s donation will provide fresh, nutritious food to people who are food insecure and lack consistent and easy access to healthy meals.

“BJ’s is committed to nourishing our communities and helping families thrive, and we’re proud to be a longtime supporter of Feeding Tampa Bay,” said Kirk Saville, executive director, BJ’s Charitable Foundation. “With our new BJ’s club in Clearwater, we’re expanding our partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay to help relieve hunger in West Central Florida.”

In 2018, BJ’s donated more than 193,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious food to Feeding Tampa Bay, helping to provide more than 160,000 meals to West Central Florida families through its Feeding Communities program.

The new Clearwater club will expand this program and donate unsold produce, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and bakery products daily to reduce food waste and provide wholesome, fresh food to neighbors in need.

“Florida is fourth in the nation for family hunger and one in six people in our region live with daily hunger,” said Thomas Mantz, executive director of Feeding Tampa Bay. “With BJ’s generous support, we’ll be able to help increase access to fresh, nutritious food to our neighbors in need. We look forward to expanding our partnership with them and make an even larger impact in our community.”

The Clearwater store is the first BJ's Wholesale Club in Pinellas County. There are two in Hillsborough County.

The club took over the Kmart building closed in December 2017 as part of Sears Holdings' decision to close low-performing store.

"At BJ's, we're committed to offering the best value to our members and we're thrilled to bring those savings to the Clearwater community," said Chris Baldwin, chairman and CEO of BJ's Wholesale Club.

The Clearwater BJ’s club will offer members a 25 percent savings on groceries. Members can also save money by filling up their tanks at BJ's Gas.

In addition to offering fresh meats, bakery goods and produce, BJ’s is the only major wholesale club to offer a full-service deli with premium meats and cheese. Members can have fresh meats cut to their specifications. BJ’s butchers will recut and repackage at no additional charge.

Additionally, BJ’s Wholesale Club helps members shop faster and save easier with convenient shopping options like same-day grocery delivery, buy online and pick up in-club, digital Add-to-Card coupons in the BJ’s app and an expanded assortment on BJs.com.
