CLEARWATER, FL -- The man accused of threatening Clearwater Home Depot customers with a stolen hammer and carjacking a pickup truck is now in custody.

Shane Michael Boisseaux Jensen, 22, was identified as the person who carjacked a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 megacab pickup truck on Wednesday morning at the Home Depot at 2495 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd.

According to Clearwater Police, around 11 a.m., Jensen stole a hammer from the store and used it to try to carjack a truck in the contractor loading zone, threatening two men with the hammer.

When that was unsuccessful, he went to the parking lot and climbed into the driver's seat of another truck and threatened the passenger with the hammer. The 17-year-old passenger got out of the truck and the man drove away in the truck, heading east on the Courtney Campbell Causeway into Tampa.

The truck, owned by Robert Brown of Seffner, was found abandoned by the Florida Highway Patrol on the Florida Turnpike near Vero Beach.

Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, a trooper spotted Jensen who appeared to be medically distressed along the Florida Turnpike in Okeechobee County. The trooper said he was incoherent and he called for paramedics to evaluate Jensen.

Jensen was sitting on the grass shoulder next to the trooper’s marked FHP unit when a road ranger stopped behind the trooper. The trooper walked back to the road ranger to retrieve water for the apparently dehydrated Jensen. That's when Jensen got into the patrol car and drove north on the turnpike. Troopers stopped Jenson in the stolen 2013 FHP Dodge
Charger. As troopers got out of their vehicles, Jensen put the patrol car in reverse and
accelerated toward three troopers in an attempt to run them over. He then drove away.

As the stolen patrol car entered Osceola County, the Osceola Sheriff’s Office assisted FHP deployed stop sticks in the northbound lanes of the turnpike. Jensen avoided the stop sticks and entered the grass median where he came to a stop against the guardrail.

Jensen then got out of the patrol car and fled into the woods. He was arrested by FHP and
transported to the hospital for treatment.

Jensen has been charged with stealing the patrol car and reckless driving, out of Okeechobee County. Additional charges are pending. There is also a warrant for his arrest out of Pinellas County for carjacking and aggravated assault with a hammer.

Jensen is currently in Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee County under guard where he is listed in stable condition.

Jensen, who lives in Largo, was previously arrested Monday afternoon at the Long Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, after he broke out the windows of a car there. He was employed as a variable lifeguard (someone who works as needed) at the recreation center before that arrest. The car he vandalized belonged to his supervisor.

In that incident, he was charged with felony criminal mischief, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana. He was released on bond from the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday and the Home Depot carjacking took place the next day.

He was fired from his position with the city of Clearwater after his arrest.
