Flooded Roads Add Up to Danger, Weather Service Warns in Video

The National Weather Service's Tampa Bay office is warning motorists to take care when driving this rainy season.

Tampa Bay, FL — As Tampa Bay’s rainy season kicks into high gear, motorists are being warned just how dangerous flooded roads can be.

As a gentle reminder, the National Weather Service Tampa Bay office recently posted a video to its Facebook page. The video shows a truck driving through a flooded stretch of road. Shortly after the truck clears the flood patch, the road gives way.

“The rainy season is upon us and daily showers and thunderstorms can be expected,” the weather service warned. When those daily showers develop into stronger storms, “roadways could quickly become flooded.”

With that in mind, motorists are asked to turn around rather than risking it.

“You never know how fast or deep the water is or what it’s done to the structure of the road,” the agency’s forecasters warned.
