Hawaiian-Themed Holiday Event Benefits Local Families

Hawaiian-Themed Holiday Event Benefits Local Families

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. - (Dec. 3, 2014) - Tampa Bay area residents can help lower-income families while enjoying the season at the Mele Kalikimaka seaside benefit this Friday, Dec. 5, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Postcard Inn on the Beach located at 6300 Gulf Blvd.

There is no charge to attend the Hawaiian-themed event and guests are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to benefit Current of Tampa Bay’s holiday initiative, Affordable Christmas. Mele Kalikimaka features a tree lighting by Tiki Santa as well as an authentic luau dance performance. Custom tree art by Cory Robinson and Belle Fleur Studios will be on display and live music from Geri X with guests DieAlps! and Kristopher James begins at 7 p.m.

“We are extremely grateful for the efforts to support Affordable Christmas,” said Current of Tampa Bay President, Jason Sowell. “Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved in this event, Current will be able to help parents give their children a Christmas they will never forget!”

For the past three years, Affordable Christmas has provided lower-income, working-class families the opportunity purchase toys, gadgets and gizmos for their children at one-tenth of the original retail cost. By having families purchase new items rather than receiving a free donation, parents are empowered and dignity is restored to those who simply need a hand up.

Guests contributing items to the toy drive will also receive a complimentary drink ticket, courtesy of Don Q. Other sponsor include Belle Fleur Studios, THX MGMT and Postcard Inn on the Beach, with Paps Blue Ribbon and Sierra Nevada providing drinks during the event. Gifts requested for the all-ages donations include sports toys and equipment, skateboards, scooters, video games, movies, dolls, action figures, arts and crafts and more.
