Law Firm Honors Pinellas County’s 1st Black Female Attorney

Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes, P.A. announced its second annual C. Bette Wimbish Memorial Art Scholarship.

CLEARWATER, FL -- In celebration of Black History Month, Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes, P.A. announced its second annual C. Bette Wimbish Memorial Art Scholarship. This scholarship honors the life and legacy of C. Bette Wimbish, the first black female attorney in Pinellas County and a political leader and activist in St. Petersburg.

To be considered for the scholarship, students at Gibbs High School and the Pinellas County Center for the Arts were asked to create a piece of artwork, in any medium, inspired by Black History Month, with extra consideration given to pieces that incorporate St. Petersburg or C. Bette Wimbish.

Last year’s contest was a big success, with more than 30 pieces of artwork received and displayed in the firm’s Clearwater office.

The top three winners will receive a monetary prize, and all students will have the opportunity to learn more about the vibrant history of St. Petersburg.

The project was spearheaded by attorney Jacqlyn Bryant, who recently became a partner at the firm, and associate attorney Dane Heptner. As a St. Petersburg native, Bryant finds it “extremely rewarding to work for a firm that not only celebrates Black History Month, but also honors the important accomplishments and legacy of Attorney Wimbish and her impact on our local legal community.”

The artwork will be on display at the law office of Perenich, Caulfield, Avril & Noyes, 1875 N. Belcher Road in Clearwater, from Feb. 18th to 28. The winners will be announced on Feb. 28 and the top three pieces of artwork will be displayed at the firm’s recently opened St. Petersburg at 2560 1st Ave. S.

The community is invited to view the student artwork.
