License-Free Fishing Weekend Around the Corner
The upcoming weekend enables freshwater fishing without a license for those 16 and up.

Florida residents ready to kick off the summer a little early by casting a line don’t need to have fishing licenses to do so courtesy of an upcoming free pass weekend announced by the state.
The second of two planned June license-free weekends takes place this Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14. On these two days, outdoors lovers will be able to reel in catches without the need for a freshwater recreational fishing license.
“This summer, we’re excited to make it easier for families to enjoy the world class fishing our state has to offer,” Gov. Rick Scott was quoted as saying in a media release announcing the two upcoming license-free events. “Florida is the fishing capital of the world and one of the many reasons we welcomed a record 98.9 million visitors to the Sunshine State last year. I look forward to fishing with my grandsons this summer, and I hope everyone takes advantage of license-free fishing this month.”

While those who take part don’t have to have licenses to do so, the state warns that all bag limits, seasons and size restrictions still apply. Annual freshwater and saltwater licenses for Florida residents normally cost $17 each and are required for those ages 16 and older.
