In Florida, a hurricane does not just threaten roofs, cars, or furniture. It can cost people their sense of safety, their routines, their homes, and in some cases, their lives.

According the Florida Climate Center, Florida is considered the most hurricane-vulnerable state in the country. And the Pinellas Sheriffs Office warns that “With its miles of beaches and barrier islands, low elevation, and dense population, Pinellas County is at high risk of disaster from hurricanes.”

During Hurricane Helene, the National Weather Service documented record local water level in Clearwater Beach. Fox 13 reported that Clearwater resident Tim Cook survived Hurricane Helene by climbing onto the roof of his North Clearwater Beach home as water rushed in. He said, "The water started coming in the house super, super fast. And the whole area looked like a rapid, like a rapids river," as he recounted his experience.

In Florida, and especially in Pinellas, the next hurricane does not have to make landfall here to become a life altering event. That is exactly why getting prepared now matters.
