Pinellas County Monitoring Potential Tropical Storm Isaias, Time To Prepare

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — The National Hurricane Center has placed Pinellas County in the five-day cone of uncertainty for the approach of Tropical Storm Isaias.

Regardless of the storm’s eventual track, high winds, rain and flooding or storm surge may affect Pinellas County as early as this weekend. Residents are urged to continue to monitor local weather sources for information on potential for and timing of any local impacts.

  • The Duke Energy Center for the Arts Mahaffey Theater testing site will suspend operations Thursday at 7 p.m. The site will not operate Friday or Saturday. Testing at the Mahaffey is anticipated to resume next week after the storm threat passes.
  • Residents can visit the Pinellas County response website for updated hours of operation.
  • The Pinellas County Information Center is open for preparedness questions. Call 727-464-4333. Residents who are deaf or hard of hearing can contact the CIC via online chat at bit.ly/PinellasChat.
  • County crews are preparing drainage systems and roadways for potential flooding.

What Residents Should Do Now

  • Preregister for special needs shelters by calling 727-464-3800 or go to the website to download a form and get more information. Residents only need to register for special needs shelters once per season, so doing it now will help you for the rest of the year.
  • Purchase necessary items to complete survival kit now. Prepare your emergency survival kit. Be sure to include face coverings, sanitizer and necessary hygiene supplies, and gather important papers. Review the checklist online.
  • Sign up for an emergency pet shelter.
