Red Light Camera Catches Driver 2 Days In A Row: Video

The City of Clearwater says it's not offering a two-for-one discount on the tickets.

CLEARWATER, FL — A motorist who passed through the intersection of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard and Belcher Road without stopping for the red light two days in a row is about to be about $316 lighter in the wallet courtesy of two tickets that will soon arrive in the mail.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, the motorist, driving a blue pickup truck, was captured on its red-light camera blowing the light not once, but twice. “Same vehicle, same intersection, one day apart,” the Clearwater Police Department wrote on its Facebook page.

The agency reports the back-to-back infractions occurred earlier in May. “Two tickets for the price of one,” the post noted.

The blue pickup’s driver isn’t the only one to get a two-ticket special from the city as of late. A few weeks back, a motorist ran the light at the same intersection twice in seven minutes.

Each red light ticket costs $158.

The city of Clearwater has three traffic safety camera locations. The cameras are located on eastbound Gulf to Bay at Belcher, westbound Gulf to Bay at Belcher and eastbound Chestnut Street at Fort Harrison Avenue, according to the city’s website.

Motorists who receive citations through the red light camera program do not receive points on their license. The ticket is a civil infraction that isn’t reported to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, according to the city. Red light runners have 60 days to pay their fines.
